Couldn't be Happier

“I recently purchased a beautiful Miyazawa flute and couldn’t be happier. A number of musicians in my orchestra have commented on the improvement in my sound without solicitation. Thank you for such a gorgeous instrument!”

ALLISON GORDON

INLINE OR OFFSET G KEYS

All models are available with your choice of inline or offset G keys to provide the most comfortable left wrist and hand position. There are no pitch or tonal differences.

For many years, inline G was perceived as “professional” while offset G was associated with “student” flutes. While these stereotypes no longer exist, there is still some debate over which design is superior.

Although inline G and offset G are the same acoustically, inline G may be the best choice for players with longer fingers or larger hands with adequate strength and control. However, due to increasing awareness of tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome, an ever-increasing number of players are now choosing professional flutes with offset G because of the more natural hand position it provides. In addition to the therapeutic advantages, there are technical benefits to consider with offset G keys.

FOOTJOINT

All flutes come with the choice of footjoint either built to low C or to low B. The B footjoint extends the range of the flute down to low B. As a result, the footjoint is lengthened by approximately 1 inch. While the low B is increasingly used in repertoire, the extension of the tube has other effects as well. The longer tube creates more resistance in the extreme registers, having a longer air column to “push.” Some see this as having a positive impact while others prefer the ease of response on a C foot.

To counteract the additional resistance of the B footjoint, the high C facilitator (commonly referred to as the “gizmo key”) closes the low B tonehole to improve the response of the 4th octave C. The high C facilitator is standard on each Miyazawa B footjoint.

SPLIT E MECHANISM

The split E divides the action of the upper and lower G keys, permitting the lower G to close when the third octave E natural is played. This mechanism can dramatically improve the response and ensures tonal stability of the high E, secure attacks and smooth slurs between the third octave A and E.

HIGH E FACILITATOR

An effective, economical alternative to the split E, this donut-shaped ring inserted into the lower G tonehole improves the response of the flute’s high E without adversely affecting other notes. The high E facilitator can be added to any Miyazawa flute at any time and can also be removed later if desired.

C# TRILL

The versatile C# trill key simplifies many awkward trill and tremolo fingerings. It is exceedingly helpful in difficult technical passages. In addition, use of the C# trill key when playing open C# dramatically improves pitch and clarity.

ROLKI

The D# roller helps to facilitate movement between the C# and D# keys of the footjoint, an often challenging area for even the most accomplished flutists.

The C# roller provides additional ease of movement between these keys. Rollers are available on models with B footjoint as shown in the chart below.

THE Brögger SYSTEM™

The Brögger System™ is a revolutionary mechanical design that was designed by Danish flutemaker Johan Brögger. Miyazawa is proud to be the exclusive company to offer the Brögger System.

Blown Away by This Flute

“How many ways can one praise Miyazawa?!! Almost ten years ago I purchased a classic series flute directly from the company. The staff was a joy to work with, and they were extremely helpful. Several months after purchasing my flute I decided to upgrade to a 14k headjoint. I went through several headjoint shipments until I found my perfect fit- an MZ-6 with a platinum riser and engraving unmatched in beauty on the lip plate and crown. I was extremely appreciative that the staff was willing to work with my perfectionistic tendencies to help me find my best fit. The end result was magical, and I am still blown away by this flute every time I pick it up. Aside from its tonal capabilities, the instrument has the smoothest, most fluid mechanism I have ever played – and this is a pre-brögger system instrument! The repair technicians are geniuses, and they keep you posted on the status/needs of your instrument. Miyazawa is a wonderful company with an incredible staff — the perfect match for the perfect flute!”
