Artist Bio

Sandra Moore Wacha


Flutist Sandra Moore Wacha performs as Principal Flute with the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra and is also a member of the Symphony Wind Quintet.

As a member of the National Flute Association, Sandra has performed with the Professional Flute Choir at several National Flute Conventions and with the Odyssey Trio in Columbus, Ohio.

Flute, Cello and Harp make up the Odyssey Trio. Other members are Kristin Maahs Fallon on Harp and Tom Hudson, Cello. The trio has recorded four CDs and Sandra has a solo flute and piano CD titled 'Silver.' Ron Albrecht from Simpson College accompanies on piano. Odyssey Trio will be releasing a brand new CD in late November. The new Spring CD will feature newly arranged pieces, one by Iowa City composer, Hal Ide, New Hampshire composer, Laurie MacGregor, and a beautiful piece by Gary Schocker.

Sandra holds a Bachelors of Music Education degree from Drake University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Her primary teachers include Dr. John Bailey, Dr. Nathen Jones and Jean Yungclas. Further study was completed with Gerald Rudy at San Diego State University and Roger Stevens in Los Angeles.

Sandra is adjunct flute instructor at Graceland University in Lamoni. She also maintains a private teaching studio attracting talented students from the central Iowa area.
