Ilari Lehtinen (Finland)


ILARI LEHTINEN studied flute under Kosti Mattsson, the Principal Flutist of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, followed by mastercourses with Severino Gazzelloni and Alexander Murray. In 1968, he studied with Jean-Pierre Rampal and Aurele Nicolet along with conducting with Francis Travis for 2 years. Mr. Lehtinen received his Doctor of Music degree with his dissertation "Frederic the Great and His Influence on Flute Music."

In 1970, Mr. Lehtinen won a prize at the Competition for Scandinavian Windplayers in Norway, and in 1971 he received the highest honors at the Jyvaskyla Summer Festival. Ilari Lehtinen has been the Solo Flutist of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra since 1974 and was Chairman of the Finnish Flute Association from 1994 to 2004.
