Joanna Kim (USA)


Joanna​ Kim, 16 year old flutist, is a sophomore in High School and lives in Austin, Texas. Ms. Kim has been active as a flutist since she first began playing in Middle School. She won first place at the Austin Flute Society Young Artist Competition as an 8th grader along with other awards in her band and orchestra competitions. Since then, as a freshman, she won first place in The Texas Flute Society, Donna Marie Haire High School Competition and was first chair in the Texas, TMEA, 6A All-State Philharmonia Orchestra. This year she received first in the 2017 MTNA Senior Woodwind competition in Texas, the South Central division, and was third in the MTNA National Competition in Baltimore. She was the alternate for the Carnegie Hall, National Youth Orchestra, was a finalist in the Haynes Flute All-Star Competition and was just named a Finalist in the National Flute Association's High School Soloist Competition in August of 2017.

Joanna is grateful to have attended Master Classes and played for Marianne Gedigian, Amy Porter, Conner Nelson, Christina Jennings, Jennifer Keeney and Christina Guenther. Her private flute teacher is Jennifer Keeney and she also takes monthly flute lessons with Professor Gedigian at The University of Texas, Austin. Ms. Kim has been a member of the Austin Youth Symphony and is a member of the Austin Harmony Youth Chamber Orchestra and Austin Korean First Presbyterian Orchestra. At school she is a member of the National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society. In her free time, she loves ice skating, shopping, reading, and traveling. Joanna is planning on being a flute performance major in college and having a life as a performing artist and teacher.
