Artist Bio

Alexander Ishov (USA)

Having recently graduated the Interlochen Arts Academy where he was a student of Nancy Stagnitta, Alexander Ishov is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music, studying with Bonita Boyd.

A member of the newly-formed National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, he joined famed maestro Valery Gergiev and renowned violinist Joshua Bell in a tour that included performances at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, and at the BBC Proms in London. Following a comprehensive audition process and a two-week training residency with leading American principal orchestral players, the orchestra will tour annually, with a new conductor and soloist chosen for each season.

In 2012, he was the winner of the Florida Flute Association High School Young Artist Competition. Winning the Ocala Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2010, he performed the Ibert Concerto with them. He has performed in masterclasses and worked with teachers such as Göran Marcusson, Jim Walker, Marianne Gedigian, Paula Robison, Jeffrey Khaner, Judith Mendenhall, Brad Garner, Stephen Preston, Trudy Kane, Christopher Chaffee and Philip Dikeman.

Greatly interested in diversifying his musical experiences, Alexander has studied conducting with Dr. Matthew Schlomer, ventured into contemporary and improvisatory music, and has collaborated on several inter-disciplinary projects involving speech and sound. He led rehearsals and performances of Dvorák's "Serenade for Wind Instruments, Op.44." Alexander has also concurrently focused on other instruments. While studying piano with Nina Selyutin, he performed numerous recitals and received premier rankings by the Florida State Music Teachers Association.  He also studied saxophone with John Thomas, and has spent time working on drums and guitar.

Alexander began his study of the flute at the age of 10, working with Christine Alicot until 2008. Christine's influence from her study at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory lead to his early instruction of the French Flute School. He went on to continue his studies with Dr. Kristen Stoner of the University of Florida.

Prior to living in Florida, Alex resided in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents are both of Russian origin and birth. Alex is bilingual and spends his summers in St. Petersburg, Russia.
